Our Mission

To provide high-school aged youth,
at reduced or no cost, formal attire
for prom or other formal school functions.

Our Story

The Prom Dress Exchange began in the Metropolitan Denver area in 1999 by two sisters:  Cheryl Wise and
Colleen Little.  These two women had a desire to see every girl who wanted to attend prom have access to a beautiful dress, regardless of their family’s income.  Every year around prom season, the two sisters hosted an annual event where girls throughout Denver could come and shop an inventory of gently used and new formal dresses.  If they found a dress
they liked, they could take it home for a nominal fee, $10.  For 12 years this annual event grew until
Cheryl and Colleen found themselves unable to continue as hosts.

Two other women:  Laura Bauer and Jeannette Lewis, found out about this wonderful program and approached
Ms. Wise about taking it over.  They were given 1,200 dresses and a large notebook containing contact information.
In two weeks, they put together their first event without a clue as to what they were doing.  One year later, they formed a charitable 501(c)(3) and brought on a board of directors made up of committed volunteers.

This once a year event continues to grow and touch the lives of more and more young women.
We would like to take a moment to thank the numerous volunteers, sponsors and supporters
for the continuing success of the Prom Dress Exchange!
